General Scope of Project
Brigham and Women’s Hospital hired n|e|m|d architects, inc. to renovate a portion of the ground floor level of the Eugene Braunwald Research Center located at 221 Longwood Avenue in Boston in order to house their MRI Research Center.  n|e|m|d helped write the successful application for an NIH G20 Grant, which funded the project.

n|e|m|d’s architectural design successfully accomplished the following criteria:

  • To significantly improve the research capabilities through the addition of new technologies for both human and animal scanning.
  • To relocate the magnet rooms to eliminate site interference that currently hinders research involving highly sensitive MRI technologies.
  • To reorganize spaces to improve the function of the suites for research.
  • To add local prep/necropsy and satellite holding spaces to facilitate animal studies.
  • To foster collaboration between researchers through team-oriented design.

In order to allow the Center to remain open throughout the renovation process, n|e|m|d developed and oversaw a multi-phased construction plan.
