General Scope of Project
n|e|m|d’s build-out of the Research Center for Women & Infants Hospital accomplished two prime objectives: it centralized three separate research departments, allowing them to share both physical and intellectual resources, and it overcame the spatial limitations of the existing building by removing walls to create open, fluid workspaces enhanced with all of the latest building systems and technologies.
n|e|m|d designed the 15,750 SF space to embrace the collaborative spirit of research by centralizing clinical areas, laboratories, and clusters of open workstations and surrounding them with private offices. A shared staff lounge, business center, and conference room also provide the separate departments with multiple opportunities meet and to disseminate communal knowledge.
